Johanna Kelley, Esq.
Owner & Managing Attorney
Mrs. Kelley is a passionate bilingual (Spanish-English) attorney, licensed to practice law in the state of New York and the country of Colombia. She has spent more than twenty years working in international and domestic law, public policy, and development.
Mrs. Kelley studied law in Colombia and graduated in 2001. While in Colombia, she practiced employment, Constitutional, administrative, and human rights law. She advised private corporations, local and international human rights organizations, governmental agencies, the Colombian Army, and grassroots community organizations regarding the Colombian political situation, human rights violations, counter-terrorism activities based on civil affairs initiatives, improving Colombia’s image, and implementing innovative strategies to reduce the impact of the internal conflict on civilians. Further, Mrs. Kelley prepared human rights claims to file before the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights, Organization of American State (OAS).
As an immigrant living in the US, Mrs. Kelley found immigration policy and law the perfect fit for her professional development in this country of immigrants and dreams. In November 2013, Mrs. Kelley founded a non-profit organization aimed to protect and promote immigrant rights and social justice based on a master project that she conceived as a fellow grad student at Duke University School of Public Policy.
In July 2016, Mrs. Kelley left the non-profit sector to serve in the government. She started working for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) as a Supervisor. It was a beautiful and tremendous experience working at USCIS because of the opportunity of ensuring the integrity of the US’s immigration system, providing immigration benefits, and supporting our National Security.
In November 2017, Mrs. Kelley decided to leave the government to start her law firm.
Mrs. Kelley believes in legal development and empowerment; therefore, she has been involved in public discussions in TV news and public events proving valuable information to the immigrant community in the US. From November 2019 to March 2020, she was hosting the TV program, Batalla Política, for the international news channel NTN24. Mrs. Kelley has been invited to different Hispanic news channels such as Telemundo, Univision, RCN News, and NTN24.
